How to Check Chunghwa Soft Pack Packaging with a UV Light

When examining Chunghwa (Zhonghua) soft-pack cigarette packaging, certain printing and security features can be checked under ultraviolet (UV) light.

This type of inspection can provide useful reference information when comparing packaging. However, UV-light characteristics can vary with production batches, packaging versions and printing processes, so they should not be treated as conclusive proof of authenticity on their own.

1. Check the Decorative Marking

Look at the decorative marking on the Chunghwa soft pack.

When viewed under a UV light, the marking on an authentic reference pack may show little or no obvious color change. On counterfeit packaging, the same area may show a more noticeable change in color.

When making a comparison, examine the same area under similar lighting conditions. Differences in UV response can be useful as one reference point, but should be considered together with other packaging characteristics.

2. Check the English Lettering on the Side

Another area to examine is the English lettering printed on the side of the pack.

Under UV light, the lettering on an authentic reference pack may change to a blue appearance and remain visible for approximately 20 seconds before returning to its original appearance. A counterfeit example may show little or no comparable color change, or the effect may disappear more quickly.

UV Inspection Is Only One Reference

UV-light inspection can be useful when comparing Chunghwa packaging, but it should not be used as the only method of authentication.

Packaging can differ between production batches and market versions. For a more reliable assessment, compare multiple features such as printing quality, packaging construction, security markings and other known characteristics of the relevant product version.

If authenticity remains uncertain, it is advisable to consult an authorised or appropriate regulatory source rather than relying solely on visual or UV inspection.
